About the role

The Senior Accountant will to undertake a 2-3-month temp assignment to assist the finance team with the management of all financial functions. This will be a part time role offering 3 days per week and located in the northern suburbs.

Duties

  • Ensure accurate and timely accounting services by the Finance team. Provide guidance and leadership, and manage performance and skill development, of Finance team members
  • Preparation, lodgement and accountability for statutory returns including BAS, FBT and Annual Accounts
  • Management of annual budget preparation for all teams and relevant stakeholder organisations
  • Preparation and presentation of monthly financial reports to the organisations’ Audit and Risk Committee
  • Cash flow budgeting, monitoring and management
  • Management of the organisations’ investments and assets within the decisions of Council and the Executive management team
  • Management of the organisations financial products including bank accounts, loan accounts, credit cards and term deposits
  • Maintain a comprehensive knowledge of statutory obligations to ensure they are met for the organisations including payroll, income tax (where applicable) and ASIC governance reporting
  • Maintain a knowledge of legislation to ensure compliance with the Fair Work (Registered Organisations) Act
  • Maintain a knowledge of, Electoral Commissions (State and Federal) reporting requirements and prepare reports and returns
  • Ongoing monitoring of financial transactions and bank accounts to ensure transactions are appropriate and mitigate risks identified, including notifying the Director, Operations and Strategy of identified risks
  • Provide advice to the Director, Operations and Strategy on investments, liabilities, asset acquisition and financial risks
  • Manage organisational debt collection risk and internal loan schemes including monitoring debtor activity, directing the debt collection company and providing advice to the Director, Operations and Strategy
  • Manage financial projects
  • Develop financial policies, procedures and risk management and be accountable for their operation after approval

 

Skills and experience

  • Recently demonstrated experience as a Senior Accountant or similar
  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field such as Accounting, Finance or Commerce
  • Hold a current DCSI – Child Related Clearance or DHS – Working with Children Check
  • The ability to work within a broad team and provide leadership to others
  • Experience in managing an accounting function with the ability to adhere to deadlines related to finance and accounting
  • Experience in managing and leading diverse teams
  • Experience with organisational statutory reporting and compliance requirements
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Sound time management skills and able to manage your own workload
  • Driver’s License and your own vehicle
